Time To Renew Your Front Yard Parking Permit

Time To Renew Your Front Yard Parking Permit

If you live in central Toronto you’re well aware that parking is at a premium.  Many homeowners have a permit for a front yard parking space if they don’t have a private drive or rear laneway.

But did you know that if you forget to renew your permit, you may lose it altogether?  This happened recently to a client and we’d hate to see it happen to you.  Licence renewals must be paid by December 31 each year.

Availability of parking has a big impact on property value, so it’s important for both sellers and buyers to clarify whether front yard parking arrangements are legal. The presence of a small metal licence sign, doesn’t guarantee that the license is current or that it can be transferred to a new owner.

The City of Toronto recently updated its website with a list of all licensed locations. This is a good place to start, but may not always be 100% up-to-date. If you're buying a home in Toronto you should contact the Off Street Parking department at 416-392-7768 to satisfy yourself that the existing parking arrangements are legal and can be transferred upon sale of the property.
