In the late 1990s the character of Ledbury started to change quite rapidly as the original suburban bungalows and storey and a half homes were redeveloped with newer, larger dwellings for affluent families attracted by the community’s excellent local schools, stylish shopping along Avenue Road and easy access to the downtown core via public transit.
A little more moderately priced than the Cricket Club neighbourhood immediately to its east, Ledbury still benefits from many of the same advantages. The Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club on Wilson Avenue offers a dizzying array of sporting activities including swimming, tennis, squash, lawn bowling as well as those listed in its lengthy title, and is also a popular social hub with its busy restaurant and many community activities.
Ledbury Park itself, in the centre of the neighbourhood features an artificial ice rink, an outdoor pool and a splash pad.
Every neighbourhood convenience is within walking distance, groceries, drug store, hardware store, library, doctors and dentists, together with a wide selection of independent boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Avenue Road provides easy access to downtown by car or bus.
