The winding, tree-lined streets of York Mills are the perfect backdrop for the large custom homes of this affluent community. The area is rich in greenspace, with a multitude of large and small parks including the trail which starts at Bayview & York Mills, leading down through Windfields Park to Edwards Gardens and beyond.
The only clue to the neighbourhood’s development around a series of grist mills along the West Don River at Yonge Street is the Miller Tavern at the corner of Mill Street and Yonge Street. Most of the original homes were built from the late 1920s to the 1960s, but in recent years, many of those, particularly the sprawling ranch bungalows, have been razed and redeveloped with more spacious two storey residences.
York Mills residents shop at York Mills Shopping Centre at York Mills and Bayview Avenue and also at the upmarket Bayview Village Mall on Sheppard Avenue.
For golf enthusiasts, the Don Valley Golf Course is located just north of York Mills off Yonge Street, set amongst the beautiful scenery of the Don River Valley.
Although this is a neighbourhood with frequently two or more cars in the household, there is excellent public transit, with the York Mills subway station and GO Transit hub providing access to both downtown and Pearson International Airport.
