REGISTERING YOUR CAR
Anyone moving to Ontario must re-register their car. Full details are available on the Ministry of Ontario website. You can find the nearest licensing office here and this is a checklist of the documents you’ll need.
- Title to vehicle
- Safety Standards Certificate (can be done at most garages and while you wait at Canadian Tire stores)
- Drive Clean Emissions Test (can also be done at many Canadian Tire stores, see the Drive Clean website for details and locations)
- Ontario Driver’s License (temporary license is acceptable)
- Photo ID including a signature (eg your passport)
- Insurance Information (name of insurer and policy number)
- Odometer reading in kilometers (miles x 1.6)
- Cnd$20 one-time fee + Cdn$74 annual fee, pro-rated from your birthday
If you are moving from another country you will also need:
- Canada Customs Imported Good Receipt
- Canada Customs ‘Form 1’
- RIV ‘Form 2’
